LIFT Standards started as private Limited company in early 2001 with Social Standards consultancy in Bangladesh. In the same year LIFT Standards has been accredited by the Fair Labor Association (FLA) as Independent External Monitor (IEM). Close collaboration with multinational buyers have entrusted LIFT to work with their local suppliers for upgrading the compliance status. In 2006 the company is registered in Germany as LIFT Standards e.K. and operates as international consulting firm on Social Standards and Productivity.

Socially responsible sourcing is important for buyers and can determine the relationship with their suppliers. Buyers are requiring their suppliers to be in compliance with the national labour legislation and the buyers' Code of Conduct. Additional third Party Social Audit by independent external monitors, such as LIFT Standards, is one instrument to improve the working condition.

LIFT Standards aims to sustain improved working conditions with increased productivity and envision to establishing a Corporate Culture Change process. This comprehensive approach addresses in a consultative manner the business partners to agree on a remediation plan, best to be implemented in a project context.

LIFT Standards Tools link the compliance status with production output and thus make a business case of improved productivity.

Extensive work experience as Social Auditor and Compliance Consultant in Bangladesh and Pakistan enabled LIFT to have available a set of adapted training and consultancy tools.

LIFT Standards also has comprehensive experience in stakeholders consultations and has been instrumental in setting up the first Round Table on Social and Ecological Standards in Bangladesh in 2005.
